Garden of Trust
In this vast world filled with humans, seek those that one can trust,
The inside is true and what matters,
The outside insignificant, beautiful or covered with rust.
To see a person for who they are takes not your eyes,
Listening with one’s ears,
Sorting out the truth and the lies.
Eyes locked in place, speech genuine and profound,
These are the words to believe,
Straying from truth, when the conversation turns to the ground.
Seeking similar souls and building a safe place,
These seeds of a beautiful garden grow,
The weeds pulled and are displaced.
As the flowers grow, harmful intentions sound off like a symphony of 1000 horns,
No matter how much work or beautiful this garden of roses,
there will always twice as many thorns.

I am a Veteran of the USAF and have been in Law Enforcement for 24 years. My goal is to share my writing, stories, poetry with those in First Responder, Military professions in an attempt to help them understand how event they often can affect them personally and professionally. I feel any person on this earth, regardless of profession or life, can have events that can affect them personally and professionally.
For me, writing helps. I call my Police Poetry LEOTRY and my Military Poetry MILOETRY. This not only get the stories out there, but allows the sharing of these amazing situations. It is amazing how many people contact me and either can associate with or know someone that may face these challenges.
Please take a read, drop me a message, share something. It is a long road to make it all work, but I have two good legs and a keyboard. Please join me in my goal of awareness and education so that we can help even just one person.

I love gardens, so this one had me just by the title alone! I was a little sad about the reminder that there are twice as many thorns as roses, I think I would like to just look at the pretty roses and ignore those thorns. Though that is probably why I am always so extremely disappointed when I touch the thorns, because I have been ignoring the fact that they are there…
Love your writing so much Dan!!
